bogfart.

today in figure drawing the model wore a humphrey bogart kind of costume and i experimented with a bit of water color. these were two poses, fifteen minutes each.

old illustrations

just thought i'd throw these in for today. circa 2010.

frank the swan

frank the swan is a project i'm working on currently for my visual development class. it's a coming of age tale based on the ugly duckling about a charismatic chubby kid in a family of body builders who becomes a professional eater. here are a couple of vis dev pieces.

CSU summer arts

as the fall semester is creeping up really fast, the highlight of summer for me definitely was going to the CSU summer arts program in CSUMB. in two weeks we were to create a character and animate a 15 to 30 second performance with it. i came up with a bum.

here is the development behind my piece called, "bum Appétit."

birthday sketch

today is my friend emman's 26th birthday and being the broke and poor college student that i am i drew him with his hero, fred armisen. emman is going to school for writing so i thought that this would be a fun scenario to draw. happy birthday, buddy!

thirty second figure drawing

when asking random strangers to pose nude for you doesn't work, there's always websites like http://www.lovecastle.org/draw/ that i can rely on. not too sure what she's smelling.

amination!

so i am sorry to this blog for not giving it any tlc in the past two months. i just got back from the "understanding your character for animation" at the csu summer arts program at csumb and i must say it was an amazing two weeks of animation boot camp. met a lot of amazing and talented artists who are also very rad dudes. the workshop entailed acting on stage with masks, filming reference, and of course, late night animating. i will most likely write a more in depth post about the process as well as the finished animation in the near future, but for now i leave you with a really random dialogue test that i did for my sophomore animation class taken from the  11 second club

finally, we meet.

so this is a project from a recent background and layout class i took last semester. the project was to create a background for two characters who are secluded and finally meeting. it had to be in the style of an already existing animated project so i chose kung fu panda. my story basically was a kung fu warrior going on a long journey to seek sage advice from a kung fu master at the top of a mountain. the kung fu master awaits his warrior at an old abandon gate of some kind. to make it more interesting and fun my teacher santino suggested a waterfall. i think it really adds to the background and makes it more enchanted.

so this is kind of a rough thumbnail that i went off of.

i looked at a lot of pictures of china and had to hunt down the two books of the concept art of the kung fu panda movies for research.

then the final line drawing.

and then the final background in greyscale.

i didn't actually keep the line drawing when i went into shading but used it as kind of a road map
when going into shading and texturing.
